Featuring an original score with roots in Jazz, Broadway and Contemporary musical theatre, Newland is a fast-paced drama juxtaposed with comedy and tongue in cheek humour depicting an era both vibrant and deadly.

It’s the height of the Californian Gold Rush and the town of Ashfall, under the dutiful direction of lawman Harvey Garris, is prospering from numerous gold strikes in the surrounding mountains.  Pioneers are descending to better their lives by claiming a share of the perilous spoils, a fact that hasn’t gone unnoticed by depraved gunslinger Bam Kane.  Working with Deputy Johnny Harding, Harvey is betrayed and forced on the run.  Harvey’s childhood friend Wilson attempts  bringing to light Johnny’s treachery but at great cost.  As Bam’s re-emergence in Ashfall creates civil unrest, the town falls apart and his allegiance with the newly appointed Sheriff soon unravels, leading to bloodshed.

Meanwhile, brothers Charlie and Ned Bunting are at the dawn of creating Newland.  Charlie’s vision is a utopian metropolis; his reality is a rundown shack and an alcoholic brother.  That is until Harvey arrives, lending much-needed guidance in exchange for a place to recover.  Joining him is Rose - a resilient working-girl, mother, and girlfriend, fleeing Ashfall to avoid the darkening regime and provide a better life for her son.  As word spreads, Newland flourishes and Harvey finds allies amongst its citizens and forms a curious bond with the rebellious sister Rebecca Bunting, much to Rose’s concern.  However, soon the dark truth of Newland is revealed and Harvey is reminded of his friends and true duty back home.
